Spring 2007 Puzzles & Mysteries Painting Retreats Intrigued, I am taking the opportunity of this spring’s retreats to look at some of the puzzles and mysteries of painting—color, for instance, and the picture plane. For example, we could take a section of a Bridget Riley painting and figure out how to mix the exact colors (a puzzle), but figuring out how and why they create the visual sensations they do is far more mysterious. The retreats are weekends devoted to painting, drawing, and visual research practice. They’re an opportunity to forego your usual daily schedule and to immerse yourself in the practice of painting. During these weekend retreats we’ll dedicate time to studying the work of favorite artists. We can learn to look at our own work in new ways by looking closely and deeply at paintings we love.
Retreats are suitable for seasoned painters & daring beginners. They can be taken as a series or individually. A list of materials will be provided. Puzzles & Mysteries I: Color Puzzles & Mysteries II: The Picture Plane Puzzles & Mysteries III: A State of Wonder Schedule Location
